Description

Situated in the quiet, picturesque village of Slinfold, the Red Lyon is a pub with restaurant and B and B accommodation. Some parts of the building date from the 14th century. Comfortable, attractive wooden-floored bar area. Large garden with BBQ for hire and canopied patio area - with gas-heaters for that chilly autumn evening - at the rear of the pub. Nice red sun shades at the front of the pub [in the summer].

Beers served are Greene King IPA, Fullers London Pride, Hall and Woodhouse Sussex Bitter and a guest ale from King and Company [the guest was Summer Ale when I was there].

How to get there

By car
Slinfold is a small attractive village west of Horsham/Broadbridge Heath between the A264 and A281.

Cycling
The best route from Horsham is to cycle along the Guildford Road. Turn left on Hills Farm Lane and then right onto the cycle path that passes Tanbridge School. The path goes over the main A24 and finishes in the Tesco supermarket car park. Cycle out of the car park towards Broadbridge Heath and turn left on the main road [can be busy].

At the next roundabout, turn left towards Billingshurst and Five Oaks. After a short distance, turn right at the Toyota garage into Lyons Road [signposted to Slinfold]. Cycle along this road for 1.25 miles [2 km] into Slinfold village and the pub is on the left.

Suggested cycling routes from here

With your back to the pub, turn right and take the first road on the right [Hayes Lane]. After a short distance [1 km or 0.75 miles], the Downs Link bridleway crosses the road. Turn left on the bridle path towards Christ's Hospital and the Bax Castle.

or turn right on the bridle path towards Rudgwick. The Wheatsheaf at Ellens Green near Rudgwick is worth a visit.

Both these routes feature some nice off-road cycling.

Very nice, well planned and everyone is catered for. I particularly like their approach for smokers after July - an outside but open covered area. However, it's a bit hefty on food prices and the toilets are a bit 'leaky' under the urinals.

Visited on Bank Holiday Monday evening. Good atmosphere, pleasant staff and decent range of beers - plus lots of well-planned seating and relaxed lighting provide a great environment in which to unwind. Beers tried were all excellent; clean, good temperature and clearly well kept. What drew us in was food service until 9pm, and the food was very good. Steak burger with stilton was great (plus a decent salad garnish) as was salmon fillet with pesto pasta. A well deserved 4/5.

Stayed on three occasions when visiting relatives in the Horsham area. Very clean, comfortable accommodation at a value for money price in a lovely quiet village.
