Description
The Tanners is at one end of the large village green and cricket pitch in Staplefield and is a friendly pub with different level bar areas, two large fireplaces, and a small non-smoking dining area. Tables can be reserved but all food is ordered at the bar. Large garden with paved seating areas.
The Jolly Tanners has a reputation for great beer and it serves 5-6 different beers at any one time. These include Fullers London Pride, Harveys and guest beers including a mild [it was Elgoods Black Dog Mild when I was there]. The Jolly Tanners has its own website.

How to get there
By car
Staplefield is close to the A23. Driving south from the Pease Pottage/M23 junction, take the exit after Handcross and the village is only a short distance.
Cycling
The best route is to take Hammerpond Road from St Leonard's Road [east side of Horsham]. This route is a great ride but it has some short, quite steep, sections. Cycle past Horsham Rugby Club on the left and continue past two fishing ponds/lakes and past the golf green at Buck's Head until you get to the junction with the B2110 at Plummer's Plain [near Lower Beeding].
Cycle across the junction [past the Wheatsheaf at the junction] heading towards Slaugham. Across the next junction into Slaugham village itself. Continue out of the village until you go under the A23 and Staplefield is 0.5 miles [0.8 km] after the A23. Left at Staplefield and the Jolly Tanners is at one end of the village green.
Suggested cycling routes from here
South from Staplefield, over the A23 to Warninglid and back to Horsham via Lower Beeding and Mannings Heath. The last part is the A281 which can be a busy road.
The Victory Inn is another pub in Staplefield that is worth a visit.

Service and ambience excellent but we found the food overpriced compared with other pubs in the area. Would recommend for standards but not prices.
