Description

Enter through the 'Flagstones' bar past a large fireplace that has been painted a bright [pink?] colour inside - it's not as bad as it sounds! There is another bar on the left with old pictures and memorabilia of Rowhook past. Tables and chairs at the front and large garden at the back. When I was there, beers were from Sussex, Harveys, and from London, Fullers London Pride and Youngs Special.

Neal's Restaurant is part of the pub and is inside a rather unusual, corrugated roofed extension. The Chequers website has been redesigned recently.

How to get there

By car
Rowhook is a mile from the A281 Horsham-Guildford road, before Rudgwick.

Cycling
Cycle the quiet back roads from Warnham to mostly avoid the busy A281. From Horsham, cycle across Rookwood golf course via the cyclepath to Robin Hood Lane. Turn left and head past the Deer Park on your right. At the next T-junction turn left again and then after 0.25 miles [0.3 km] turn right at Byfleets Lane past the cricket pitch on the right.

Up the hill, bear left at the road triangle and continue to the A281. Turn right along the busy road for a short distance [0.25 miles / 0.3 km] and turn right at the next roundabout onto the A29. Take the next left - it's only 50 meters - signposted Rowhook, and up a rather deceptive hill - the pub is a welcome sight at the top!

Suggested cycling routes from here

It's a bit of a whizz cycling back down the hill you came up ... or, there is a bridleway to the A281, as you come out of the pub turn right.

Alternatively cycle to the Wheatsheaf at Ellens Green or you could also visit the Greets in Warnham on your way back.

We ate here on a Wednesday night. The food was very nice but maybe a little pricey for a pub meal. I was a little annoyed that one of our fellow diners asked for fries instead of sautéed potatoes, got a bowl of fries and the sautéed potatoes on his plate, and we were then charged extra for the fries. Other than that, the service was good, fast and friendly. However, I have eaten better food in other local pubs for a cheaper price tag!

An excellent place to eat. We have been here on several occasions and have never had anything other than an excellent meal. Great service too.

Having visited recently for a meal, we were very impressed by the friendly staff and superb food. 5 star all round.

No wonder this establishment made it into the top 100 UK gastropubs - the food is superb and they also serve real ale! Not a huge menu but the four of us each had something different and were delighted with our selection. Staff are helpful and friendly. I have no hesitation in recommending.
