How to get there

By car
The pub is on the B2128 between Rudgwick and Cranleigh. It is approximately 1.7 miles [2.7 km] from the A281 Horsham to Guildford Road.

Cycling
Cycle from Horsham -> Warnham -> Rowhook (try the Chequers Inn) -> Ellens Green. It is possible to do this with only a small section of busy road. Hint: Use the cyclepath from Redford Avenue under the A24.

On the way back, pick up the Downs Link at Rudgwick [turn right into Station Road to join the Downs Link before the A281] for a traffic-free route to Slinfold or Christ's Hospital and then returning to Horsham. This route is about 20 miles [32 km] if you do it without detours.

Excellent Sunday cycle ride from Horsham along the Downs Link path, then back through Rowhook and Warnham with a great pint and a lovely roast at the halfway point. A busy Sunday lunchtime at this pub but I can see why; the food and service were first class. Also, looked like a very nice garden, so we will be back later in the year to sit in it!

I visited The Wheatsheaf on Sunday and found a warm welcome and superb food and service. The roast pork with crisp crackling was the best I have had in many years. We will certainly return. Highly recommended.

I came to The Wheatsheaf with friends for my birthday and our party of ten were really well looked after. The manager and staff were most helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. The food was wonderful, very generous portions. We were all very impressed with the service and a great time was had by all. Will be returning very soon. Thank you for making my birthday so special.

Visited on a Wednesday and found Steak Night at the Wheatsheaf. Great selection and reasonable prices. Our server Chloe was very friendly and the steak was cooked just right. Well done chef...

Found this nice country restaurant after a game of golf. Great menu for a lunchtime meal and friendly service. Top notch.

Great menu, good ingredients, but ruined by indifferent staff and chef who forgot to include all the key ingredients in the meals. Worst of all, the manager didn't seem to care! Had to ask for cutlery, napkins and seasoning.

Dog mess in the garden just feet away from the dining area. Even though we mentioned this, it was not removed. There were children playing in the garden, so not good. What a disappointment.

The food was bland and dated. Could swear the gravy was Bisto. Grumpy barman and took forever to get served. Would not return.

My boss recently took me to The Wheatsheaf at Ellen's Green after a game of golf and I was pleasantly surprised to find a beautiful alfresco patio in such nice surrounds. I ordered the steak which was served cooked to perfection by a very helpful waitress, who even recommended a fine glass of red! Thank you, I really enjoyed my visit, and the wine...

Horsham's best kept secret at Ellen's Green. I attended the Steak Night recently and found great hospitality, and a mouth-watering steak. Excellent choice of wine too!

A big thank you for a superb charity evening for Rainbows End Pre-School.The marquee looked wonderful, a great venue for 100 people. The food was beautifully presented, tasted good, and plenty for everyone. The waitress staff were very friendly and helpful especially head bar man Ewan. Cassy and Ollie were very friendly and created a lovely welcoming atmosphere. The whole evening was a great success including the live entertainment and we look forward to many more.

When my husband suggested dinner on a Sunday evening at a pub, I didn't think anywhere would be open but after dining at The Wheatsheaf I can fully recommend it to anyone. Very welcoming from the start with a bustling evening trade. I chose the king prawns followed by the whole sea bass and can honestly say that it was the best I have ever tasted. The Chilean white accompanied the meal perfectly and all for a good price. Shall be returning very soon. Excellent.

Fantastic. Good smoked trout starter for both of us. Wife had tuna steak, I had the fillet steak, medium rare. Food was brilliant. Service timely and with a smile. Very reasonable prices. Good beer was a bonus. Will definitely return.

Group of five on a Friday night. Food was excellent. Pub not too busy, service was good. Three course meal plus drinks for £30 a head. Would recommend to anyone.

Took my fiancé out to dinner for his birthday. Although it was a Wednesday, the pub was still bustling. Lovely cosy atmosphere. Food was served promptly and with no problems. We both had steak which is locally sourced, and we both agreed the nicest we have ever eaten. Puddings were also excellent. Very good value for money!

The pub is now under new ownership and I can only praise the service and food which were both fantastic, all in a beautiful and charming environment.

I have nothing but very high praise regarding my experience of The Wheatsheaf. The managers are both very charming, warm and friendly, and have consistently sought to provide excellent service and hospitality. The food is delightful and varied. This is a gem of a pub, elegantly laid out yet resolutely convivial.

We had a lovely weekend lunch at the Wheatsheaf, really enjoyed it and the food was excellent.

Booked for Mothers' Day lunch. After the cordial greeting, things just went downhill from there. The service was unacceptably slow and the food was cold and mediocre. The pub, I believe, is under new management. I have been to the Wheatsheaf quite a few times over the years and have always found it excellent. Unfortunately, I will not be going back there again after today's experience.

The management took great offence at my complaint, which I found very strange! Surely feedback is good thing? Maybe it was because the people on the next table were also complaining. Not Good.

Friendly pub that allowed me to use their phone; the pub was in a mobile dead zone. Friendly staff, comfortable seating, non-smoking area. Main courses good, desserts excellent. Presentation was first class and tasted great too.
