Description
This is a red-bricked old pub next to the old railway station at Baynards [last train 1965] near Rudgwick. Lots of old railway signs on the walls, ceiling covered with walking sticks and 'display' of corkscrews behind the bar. Five or six different real ales and beer garden.
You would not be able to find this pub by car very easily but it is well known. On the steps to the pub is an ideal place to rest weary limbs with a beer and watch other mountain bikers, walkers and horse riders go by!

How to get there
By car
The pub is about a mile from the A281 Horsham-Guildford road, between the A281 and Cranleigh.
Cycling
This pub is on the Downs Link bridleway between Rudgwick and Cranleigh [north of Horsham]. Join the Downs Link at Slinfold and cycle north
towards Rudgwick [crosses the A281 - busy road]. After the road continue for 1 mile [1.7 km] until a steepish hill [climbing!]. Turn right after the top [follow
Downs Link signs] and continue to the next road - turn right and follow
the bridleway underneath the road. The pub is a short distance [0.25
km] on the left.
Suggested cycling routes from here
Continue on the Downs Link to the A281 near Guildford, which is the northern end of the bridleway. Turn right to Guildford town centre and stop to watch boats on the river by the Jolly Farmer pub. This is about 8 miles [13 km] from the Thurlow Arms. From Horsham this round trip is about 40 miles [mainly off-road].

We chose this pub as our planned endpoint on a Bramley to Baynards section of a Downs Link cycle run with an 11 and 5-year old. We arrived tired and hungry at 14:00 on a Tuesday. It was shut. We were advised by two walkers that opening was sporadic and that the owner is trying to get a change of use to 'residential'. Be warned.

I have never been so astounded and disgusted by the downright rudeness of a publican in my life! This seemed an ideal spot for a lunch break during our Sunday bike ride along the Downs Link trail. However, the owners saw fit to leave three drunken locals in the garden in charge of their dog whilst they tended the barbeque. The dog was out of control and urinated all over my rucksack. On pointing this out, I was met with derisive abuse from the local drunkards, no apology at all from the publican, and laughing as we left the pub. My recommendation, whatever you do - do not visit this pub!

If a pub has only one sort of beer and no food at 12:30 on a sunny Saturday afternoon, the warmest day of the year so far, it doesn't deserve to stay in business! Great location, disappointing establishment.

This pub is one of the nicest pubs I have ever been to. I've visited the pub on a regular basis since I was 16 [drinking coke, of course]. Staff are friendly and I always have a laugh and a joke with them. Reading some of the other older reviews, I was quite shocked. Never had any problems. Great pub.

Having read some of the older reviews, I had to address the comments. I have been going to the Thurlow for some time. From my first visit, there was always a warm welcome, the prices are similar if not cheaper than other pubs in the area. The staff do their best to accommodate where they can.

I use the cycle path and stop off at the Thurlow Arms
for refreshment along the way. They serve good food, nice cold beer and
the landlord/staff are very friendly. This is one of the few pubs I would
choose to visit again and again. Recommended to all of my friends.
