Description
The Parrot is situated at the bottom of Leith Hill overlooking a large expanse of green with cricket pitch. There has been a pub here for at least 300 years. Oak beams aplenty, fireplaces with old fashioned stoves, and Youngs ales. Gardens and tables at the front and rear. Sunday lunchtime can be very popular. Otherwise, normally open all day - very handy for a mid-afternoon stop!
The pub has its own farm shop where you buy fresh produce from the owner's nearby farm. Previous owners include the lead singer from the 1960s pop group Procol Harum - known for "A Whiter Shade of Pale". The Parrot has been reviewed by the Times Online.

How to get there
By car
Forest Green is west of Capel on the B2126.
Cycling
From north Horsham, cycle to Rusper and then Capel. Cross the A24 [CAUTION - busy road] at Capel towards Ockley. At the junction with the A29, turn left and then immediately right at Ockley green. Follow this road for about 2 miles [3 km] and turn left at Forest Green - the pub is on the left.
Or, visit the Scarlett Arms and cycle north from there to Forest Green - this avoids the A24.
Suggested cycling routes from here
Leith Hill [height = 294m] has some excellent up-and-down bridleways [including some technical single-track descents] and some great views. Extra carbohydrates [homemade cakes] are available from the small shop in the tower at the hill top - you might need them! Great view from the top of the tower
Some quiet country lanes south of here towards Walliswood and Rudgwick.

Have been to this pub twice in the last couple of months, both times on gorgeous sunny days, and with its idyllic country setting this pub is perfect for nice weather. Plenty of outside seating and a good sized car park. Both times, the pub has been very busy but even so the staff were very efficient and friendly. The food has been excellent. Cannot comment on the ale as it's not my thing but the Stowford Press was lovely.

Have been to this pub many times since I moved to Dorking six years ago. Food has always been fantastic. We liked it so much we had our wedding reception here two years ago and our friends still mention how good the food was! I'm going to cycle there now for a jar of also very good ale!
My husband and I chose The Parrot at Forest Green for Sunday lunch with a friend after seeing a favourable review in a Guardian supplement. Reading some other reviews, we wondered whether we had made the right choice. We need not have worried. The food was good and the service friendly and efficient. We had booked a restaurant table but chose to sit outside instead and the staff were very relaxed about this, explained the system to us, and checked what the waiting time might be (not long at all although it was a very busy day). We'd be there again like a shot if Google hadn't given us such a convoluted route from Harrow!
Had lunch here but service was poor. We ordered two meals at the same time. One meal was served but without condiments and we were not asked if we wanted any. The second meal eventually arrived when the first meal was finished. Had planned to visit farm shop but didn't bother.
The worst Surrey pub I have ever been to. Crowded, uncomfortable setting with inattentive staff serving poor food at high prices. It took us two hours to have a roast dinner. My daughter's pork was 80% fat and when I pointed this out to one of the senior staff members she said "that isn't very good" then disappeared.
