Description
The Parrot is situated at the bottom of Leith Hill overlooking a large expanse of green with cricket pitch. There has been a pub here for at least 300 years. Oak beams aplenty, fireplaces with old fashioned stoves, and Youngs ales. Gardens and tables at the front and rear. Sunday lunchtime can be very popular. Otherwise, normally open all day - very handy for a mid-afternoon stop!
The pub has its own farm shop where you buy fresh produce from the owner's nearby farm.
UPDATE The Parrot was reviewed by the Times Online. The pub is also featured in Pubs and Inns of England and Wales [right].

How to get there
By car
Forest Green is west of Capel on the B2126.
Cycling
From north Horsham,
cycle to Rusper and then Capel. Cross the A24 [CAUTION - busy road] at Capel towards Ockley. At the junction with the A29, turn
left and then immediately right at Ockley green. Follow this road for
about 2 miles [3 km] and turn left at Forest Green - the pub is on the
left.
Or, visit the Scarlett Arms and cycle north from there to Forest Green - this avoids the A24.
Suggested cycling routes from here
Leith Hill [height = 294m] has some excellent up-and-down bridleways [including some technical single-track descents] and some great views. Extra carbohydrates [homemade cakes] are available from the small shop in the tower at the hill top - you might need them! Great view from the top of the tower
Some quiet country lanes south of here towards Walliswood - Rudgwick

Thank you to everyone who made such a fantastic day so special for my brother-in-law's wedding on 31st May! A beautiful day, excellent food and service.

Very homely pub with excellent food, good service and beer. Does get busy but that is only a reflection of how good it is. Only gripe is that it is a bit pricey.

We got married here last month [that’s my Mum’s post below, 6th June] and have visited on numerous occasions. Have always come away happy and well fed. Food is great, beer always spot on [and good variety], good wine list too. Have always found the staff friendly and helpful - it gets very busy sometimes but in our experience they cope with it well. A very decent pub.

Went to The Parrot on Friday evening and had the most superb meal. A lot of meat reared on their farm. The farm shop within the pub has the most terrific range of local products for sale - the pies are to die for.

A perfect wedding day - everyone went out of their way to ensure a very, very special day. Beautiful location, exquisite food throughout and friendly, helpful staff. What more could you want? Thank you all so, so much!

Having read the previous review they must have gone to a different pub. We had fantastic steaks served by very attentive and friendly staff. The only slight problem was such large portions for my wife.

Awful food. The roast beef looks pre-carved and tastes like it has been kept in water to keep warm in order to save time. Tastes like it too. The Yorkshire puddings are not homemade, no vegetables, and the whole roast looks and tastes like a ready meal. I have been here before and had the same experience. Gave it the benefit of the doubt. Not recommended at all. Stay at home and cook good quality fresh roast.

I've visited this pub several times and the food has always been fantastic. I'd recommend the potted prawns and the pork terrine for starters, and the turbot or steak and kidney pie for the main courses. The prices are very reasonable and the portion sizes are generous, served by helpful, friendly staff. I think anyone who doesn't enjoy it ought to go back to their local 'theme' pub.

The staff are really friendly, they go out of their way to help you or to supply you with what you want. Food is wonderful, great selection and good spit roasts at the weekend. A real country pub, does get busy. Lovely area and location. Some really good ales from local breweries - so good that we are getting married there in August! Plus, they have a fantastic farm shop within the pub.

A change for the worse. Prices have increased and the range and quality of the food has decreased. Poor value and not recommended.

Very friendly, good atmosphere. Had a thoroughly enjoyable Sunday lunch. Happy to recommend it to anyone - and have already booked to go back. My only slight criticism was the more limited menu available on Sunday. Was hoping for steak and kidney pie to be washed down by good ale, but only available [pie that is, not ale!] during the week.

Nice location and plenty of character. Staff obliging and efficient. Food average. Interesting vegetables but reheated meat pretty chewy. Whole meal not very warm. Spacious and children friendly. I would revisit.

Initially the staff were very accommodating and the food excellent. The pub became more chaotic as it got busier and staff became stressed and abrupt. However, would recommend it for ambience and food quality.

Had a meal at this pub in a lunch hour. Sorry to say, found the staff unprofessional; they made me feel uncomfortable! Food was average, not family orientated.
