Description

The Limeburners Arms is in a converted row of 17th century cottages and was originally located on the Wey and Arun canal which is now a hundred yards away. The canal is now being restored and is nicknamed "London's lost route to the sea". The pub sells Fullers beers and a range of pub food from a cosy bar with large fireplaces and stone floors.

There is an attractive garden at the front with childrens' play area at one end. There is a campsite behind the pub.

How to get there

By car
The pub is about a mile west of Billingshurst, just adjacent to the A272. It is signposted from the A272 but it's easy to miss.

Cycling
Cycle to Billingshurst and then through the village [this avoids most of the bypass]. Take the A272 [can be busy] west towards Petworth and Wisborough Green. After about a mile [0.7 km] just before a sharp right bend, turn left on to the B2133 [towards Adversane] and the pub is on the left.

A good route to Billingshurst along some quiet roads is via Southwater to Barns Green. From here cycle south following the railway until you get to a staggered junction. Go straight across and then take the next left, before the A29, to the A272 and then right to Billingshurst.

Suggested cycling routes from here

Continue along the A272 towards Wisborough Green and the Cricketers and then on to the Half Moon at Kirdford or the Onslow Arms at Loxwood.

Turn right out of the pub back towards the A272, turn left and immediately right on to Rowner Road, and cycle north to the Blue Ship.

Had a one night stay at the camp site on a stopover to meeting my parents next day. Camp site clean, toilets and showers basic but clean. Had a very nice meal in the pub, staff are very friendly, will stay again.

We stayed at the camp site last year and had a few meals in the pub and we loved it. We went back on Saturday, driving to Petworth House, so we stopped for lunch. We both had the beef rogan josh and were thoroughly disappointed. The curry was superstore quality at very best and the naan and poppadom were barely cooked. My curry had two pieces of beef and my wife's meal had one piece; no exaggeration. I know it must be hard to make money nowadays but to charge customers £10.95 each is no way to go about things. I certainly won't be back, camping or otherwise.

We have been to the Limeburners about 5 times and always enjoyed it - went there on New Year's Eve 2010 with our dog and had a lovely time, very good food, very friendly staff and chatty locals - brilliant!

My parents used to go to the Limeburners when they were courting in the 1940s! I often go there for a Sunday lunch and their roasts are the best in Sussex.

Decided to pop in and get a bite to eat, the menu looked really good so we stayed. Both my partner and I had a fantastic meal, staff were very friendly and the pub is set in a great location with an on-site campsite. We will certainly return in the near future.

Great location and cosy little pub with friendly staff. It was a lovely summer's evening when we visited. The beer was good. We were almost salivating by the description of the food on the menu/blackboard. However, it was down hill from there. Two of us had pork steaks that should have been served on rosti but arrived on a stack of chips. When we cut into the steaks they were raw. The fish and chips seemed to be a plate of frozen produce and we were charged £9.95 for the privilege!
