Description

Used to be very much a traditional, local, drinking pub but was refurbished in 2004. Selling Hall and Woodhouse beers and Fursty Ferret from Gribble brewery. Two bar areas and garden with tables at the front, although the road can be busy. Morris Men visiting throughout the summer.

The old cottage next door was the original pub and the pub name comes from the "Dorking Beacon" which, apparently, was a bonfire on the site of Horsham common - the last remains of the common is a triangular green area just next to the pub. At least, that is what I have been told.

The Dog and Bacon

How to get there

By car
The pub is about a mile north of Horsham town centre, near the Robin Hood A24 roundabout.

Cycling
From Horsham town centre, cycle north on London Road, then into Springfield Road until the traffic light junction with Hurst Road. Straight on, past Smith and Western bar/restaurant and the pub is on the left. It's only a mile or so.

Suggested cycling routes from here

Why not cycle to the Greets Inn in Warnham? Turn left [slightly downhill] out of the pub and take the first left into Redford Avenue. After approx 0.5 miles [0.8 km], turn right on the cycle path across Rookwood golf course [beware.. low-flying golf balls!].

After crossing the golf course, follow the cycle path round to the right. After the tunnel under the A24 dual carriageway, continue left past the deer park on your right. At the T-junction, turn right to Warnham. Up and over the hill and then left into Friday St which is half way down the hill [0.75 miles / 1.2 km] - the Greets Inn is on the left.

Nice pub and now completely refurbished. Lovely to sit outside but noisy from the main road. The food is good but takes a long time, don't go if you are in a hurry.

I had a meal at this pub and was pleasantly surprised by the superb quality. I'm a fussy eater and was happy to have finally found a place that caters for the majority of people. I don't think they do meals anymore. Shame!
